What to expect during a hydrotherapy session
at Golden Girl Ranch

Every session is designed with your dog’s unique needs in mind—whether we’re supporting recovery, mobility, or just offering a soothing soak.
1
Warm Welcome & Intake
We start by getting to know your pup—checking in on how they’re doing physically, emotionally, and behaviorally. If it’s your first session, we’ll review your intake form, vet clearance, and any specific goals or concerns.
4
Rest, Sauna & Dry
At the end of the session, we’ll gently lift your dog out of the pool and offer access to our dry sauna, which includes red light therapy for enhanced muscle recovery and relaxation. It’s a warm, calming space where your pup can dry off and soak in the benefits—literally. Towels and soft doggy robes are provided (because obviously, your dog deserves the full spa experience). After the sauna, we’ll do a final towel-off and make sure they’re feeling golden.
2
Slow, Safe Introduction to the Water
We move at your dog’s pace. Whether they’re a lifelong swimmer or a bit unsure around water, the goal is to create a calm, positive experience. We’ll gently ease them into the warm water while supporting their body for safety and comfort. The first 15 minutes is all about emotions.
5
Feedback & Next Steps
We’ll go over how your dog did during their session, note any changes or improvements, and talk about what’s next—whether it’s more sessions, home exercises, or just a big ol’ nap.
Fair warning: Post-hydro pups tend to go one of two ways—Golden coma or Golden zoomies. Both are totally normal (and honestly, pretty entertaining).
While the ranch is fenced on three sides, if your pup tends to follow their own St. Olaf-style adventures, please be ready to corral them. Recall isn’t always golden—but supervision is!
3
Movement & Therapeutic Techniques
Once in the water, we use guided movement, resistance, and buoyancy to support your dog’s joints and muscles. Techniques may include:
Each session is tailored—sometimes, we focus on active movement; other times, we may simply float and decompress (which can be just as therapeutic!)

You’re Golden!
Your pup is welcome to explore the 4 acres Golden Girl Ranch has to offer: walking trails, chipmunks, and sticks galore. I am happy to help load your dog back into your vehicle and ensure they are comfortable for the journey home.
“It’s the people we love who make us feel safe, who give us strength. And in the end, we find out it’s really just love that makes the world go round.”

A dog in a robe…
What should I bring to our first session?
You, your dog, a towel for your car (we’ve got extras), a leash/harness, and a few favorite treats. If your dog tends to get chilly, feel free to bring a dry layer for the ride home. Bonus points if you come with a good sense of humor—we’ll handle the rest.
Do I need a vet referral?
While a referral isn’t required, we do recommend chatting with your vet if your dog has a current injury or complex condition. We’re happy to collaborate for the best care possible.
What if my dog doesn’t like the water?
Totally okay! Many of our canine clients start out unsure—we take things slow, use positive reinforcement, and never force anything. Some dogs even learn to love it (and the snacks don’t hurt).
Do I need to stay during the session?
Yes, and trust us—it’s the best hour you’ll spend all week. Building confidence in the pool where your pup can see you for the first few sessions is important. After that, depending on the pup, you may be free to leave, walk the trails, grab coffee at Roseland Coffee House, or lounge in The Velvet Golden.
Can I bring my other dog along?
Feel free to bring other dogs for moral support, but unless otherwise arranged, only one pup will be in the pool at a time. This keeps the vibe calm, safe, and Sophia-approved.
What kind of pool is it?
It’s a warm-water therapy pool (swim spa) designed specifically for canine use—safe, clean, and minimal chemicals. We maintain water temps between 90–98°F for optimal muscle relaxation. Did you know a dog’s normal body temperature can range between 99-102°F ? We keep the water around your pups body temperature. Be sure to check out the Swim Spa page on this site for more information.
